 I don't think she's French, or at least not according to her passport. I suspect she's from North Africa.

But experiences can be so different.

Not that it really matters, but for what it's worth I believe she is French/Tunisian: Several times I have heard Maxima conversing in fluent Arabic with the Muslim massage guy (Khalid?), who often hangs out on the back couch opposite the downstairs mirrored room.
